Dear fellow gardeners,
It finally starts looking like Spring., and it’s time to think about our annual Deering Plant Sale. The Town Hall is reserved for Friday, May 21, and Saturday, May 22 (day of the Sale) - only two months away!
Some of you have worked with me for years , raising funds for the “Deering Connection” newsletter, the renovation of the Town Hall kitchen, the Deering Library and the Hillsboro Food Pantry. The Deering Library and the Food Pantry will share this year’s proceeds as well.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. These are the most important needs:
Helping hands! Please contact me if you can help me pot up plants for a morning or afternoon, or work on Friday afternoon, May 21, or at the sale Saturday morning, May 22.
Your plants: perennials, groundcovers, houseplants, vegetable or flower seedlings in pots or trays;
Empty flower pots, hanging baskets, trays;
Potting soil or top soil - your leftovers.
Who would be willing to lend us a “little red wagon” or a small wheelbarrow for the Plant Sale weekend? We need a couple of them to transport plants from cars to the Town Hall on Friday, and to help customers with their purchases on Saturday.
Do you have overgrown perennials in need of rejuvenating, or do you know of a friend or neighbor who does? Most perennials benefit from dividing every 3 - 4 years. I would be happy to arrange a demonstration of how to do this, in your garden or mine, some time in April, in exchange for some extra plants you develop. I have a stash of recycled pots of various sizes. Please let me know what size, and how many you need, to pot up your donations.
Thank you so much!
Pia
