Deering Conservation Commission
Meeting March 4, 2002

Prior to the meeting of the Conservation Commission -members assembled packets of material for the display on Election Day prepared by member Gary Bono.

Chm. Cobbett called the Regular meeting to order at 7: 45 PM

Attendance:
Present : Chm. Ed Cobbett, Shane Beard, Treasurer-, Gary Bono, Michelle Johnson, Keith Johnson, Bev Yeaple, Clerk and Alt.
Absent : Krista Helmboldt, Lee Jenkins
Also Present:
Members of the Piscataquog Watershed Association - Margaret Watkins, Pres., John McCausland, Director and Lauri Terwilliger, Administrative Director .

After Introductions -
A discussion followed on the present goals of the PWA ;
1. The PWA would like to share their programs with the Deering Association. The members of the Commission offered to help sponsor the programs and to assist in promotion of same. Signage will be sought at the
Deering Lake recreation area and at Zoski Rd. for posting of summer events.

2. The PWA spoke with particular emphasis on their aim to purchase a conservation easement in Deering on the ( Wasserman) property on Rt 149. The property abuts the Deering Conference Center .
The head waters of the north branch of the Piscataquog River start their flow from the Deering Reservoir and goes along the southern property line of the Wasserman lot. The wetland on the property is the oldest wetland of the watershed and is contained by a natural rock dam. The easement would be held by the PWA.

The Commission will evaluate the possibility of a donation from the DCC Conservation Fund to the PWA towards this easement .

Treasurer¹s report:
Shane reported;
1. That he corrected a duplicate entry found in his last report to the Commission.
2. The Commission received a check for $105.00 from the Deering Lake Association towards their share of the cost of 4H Campers.
Communications:
1. Rymes, James - Airport Road. Chm. Cobbett sent a letter to the NHDES regarding the Alteration of Terrain permit submitted by J.Rymes . ( See File - for letter content )
2. 4H Campers have been selected - for the summer 2002 program James Knight , Dan Hale and Nathan Winkler.
The cost , $225.00 per camper - will be shared by the Conservation Commission , the Deering Association and the Deering Fish and Game Club.
3. Conservation easements:
a. The Fish and Game Club easement has been signed and Chm. Cobbett will submit the mylar and document for registering.
b. McAlister¹s . An P/S agreement on the easement has been written and is being reviewed . After review it will then go to the McAlister OEs attorney and then to the Bd. of Selectmen.
4. Greene Junkyard / Aquifer test drills.
Chm. Cobbett will take second samples and send them to an independent certified laboratory for analysis .

New Business:
1. Date set for SPRING CLEAN UP = April 20, 2002

2. Ground Water monitoring - Water Run off

Gary will do the set up of the display the night before -
