Fire Department May Report
The Town of Deering, NH
To:             Deering Board of Selectmen

From:           Chief Andy Anderson

Date:           1 May 2006

Subject:        Monthly Report

This month’s report will cover the period from 1 April to 30 April 2006 inclusive.

The Deering Fire and Rescue responded to 17 calls during the month.

The new Engine One and the Fire/Rescue Boat were ordered in April.  We also began to take delivery of several components of the Compressor System early in the month.

We began preparing Engine One for its reassignment to the Highway Department.  The tools and equipment were stored at the McAlister Station to be placed in service on the new Engine when it arrives.

In other projects, members spent time with some Spring cleaning inside and outside of each station.  We began painting the walls of the Murdough Station, something that has not been done in recent memory.

The requested inventory of Department equipment has been done and the report is nearly finished.

Wildland Fire Suppression Training was conducted over two days, an evening classroom session on the 25th and a practical evolution on the 30th.  Captain Doug Connor (who is also our Fire Warden) sectioned off part of his property with flags to simulate a burn area and members of the Department created a Fire Line around it.  We also ran both of our Forestry pumps and then blanketed the area with Class “A” Foam from Engine Two, utilizing the water source on Captain Connor’s property.

With the danger of Brush/Forest Fires still very high, we are not issuing any permits for brush piles until we receive some substantial rain.  We will continue to issue Campfire/Cooking Permits.  Fire Wardens will be at each of the stations on Saturday, May 13th, from 9:00 AM until Noon to issue those permits.

We received license plates for Engine 84 and the Firefighter’s Association is in the process of obtaining insurance for this vehicle.  The Explorer’s are looking forward to restoring this piece of apparatus for Parade and Muster duty.

Our annual dinner and dance was held on Saturday, April 22nd and was well attended with members from the surrounding towns.

The Fire and Rescue Call Summary and Apparatus Report for the month of April are attached.

Respectfully Submitted,

Chief Andy Anderson
