Subject: Monthly Report
This month’s report will cover the period from 1 December to 31 December 2006 inclusive. The Deering Fire and Rescue responded to 13 calls during the month of December, closing out the year with 196 calls, our busiest year to date.
The new Engine One arrived in Deering on Tuesday, December 26th, after completing a final inspection by the three Chief Officers. Although the truck is in town we have quite a bit of work ahead of us to put the vehicle in service. Bulldog Fire Apparatus, the local KME distributor, will provide training on the pump during the month of January. Our goal is to have Engine One response ready by 1 February 2007.
We participated in two training events in December. Captain Doug Connor presented our annual Bloodborne Pathogens class on the 5th. On the 19th, Lieutenant Chrissy Elliott and Deering Police Officer Nick Hodgen went over the RSA’s pertaining to responding to calls. To reinforce what we had learned we watched a film from Police Standards and Training that dramatically illustrated the dangers of responding to incidents at high rates of speed.
Both Engine Three and Ambulance One were out of service for short periods of time in December for maintenance. The Engine needed repairs to the air compressor tank while the Ambulance required new tires.
We had some minor building maintenance issues that came up during the month. The furnace at the Donovan Station required repair and the door lock at the Murdough Station also needed to be replaced. There were some plumbing problems at the Murdough Station which included repairing a broken water spigot and the installation of an additional water tank.
Concord Fire Alarm has been notified that the West Deering Bridge is once again open to Emergency Apparatus and letters were also sent to the Mutual Aid Departments at the end of the month.
Santa Claus rode Engine Three to the Town Hall on Saturday, December 7th for the Christmas Party. After that, he enjoyed a brief ride around Deering to spread Holiday Cheer.
The Fire and Rescue Call Summary and Apparatus Report for the month of December are attached.
