October Department Report
The Town of Deering, NH
To:             Deering Board of Selectmen

From:           Chief Andy Anderson

Date:           1 October 2007

Subject:        Monthly Report

This month’s report will cover the period from 1 September to 30 September 2007.  The Deering Fire and Rescue responded to 11 calls during the month.

Three of our members (Rene Boyer, Rhett Darner, James Wilcoxen) have successfully completed the SCBA portion of their Firefighter I program at the New Hampshire Fire Academy and will be continuing with the class.  The fourth member, Kristopher Demmons, was unable to complete the module.  Firefighter Demmons dropped out of the class and has since resigned from the Department for personal reasons.

Tanker One sustained damage to the driveshaft and radiator during routine pump testing.  This is exactly the same issue that took the truck out of service during the Spring of 2002.  Thanks to our new mechanic at the Highway Department, the truck was back in the station in a shorter time frame and at a reduced cost to sending the vehicle out for maintenance. By the end of the month the Tanker was still out of service waiting for pump testing.  This will take place during the first week of October.

On September 25th, Assistant Chief Pragoff and I visited the three homes on the Henniker end of Quaker Street in regard to their concerns about their street numbers.  The first resident that we spoke with had no concerns, the second home was unoccupied at the time of our visit (Summer residents) so we left a contact number for them.

From the third residence I called E-911 from both of their telephones to verify that
the address that appears on the 911 screen is indeed the address of the home, which it was.

We worked on several different skills in monthly training on September 30th.  The morning began with a classroom refresher on the Incident Command System and then we broke into two groups.  One group practiced donning PPE and SCBA in timed evolutions while the other group laddered the Donovan Station.   At the conclusion of the training each member present was issued their own SCBA facepiece and a protective bag to carry them in.
