Subject: Monthly Report
This month’s report will cover the period from 1 August to 31 August 2007. The Deering Fire and Rescue responded to 14 calls during the month.
Four of our members began their Firefighter I class at the New Hampshire Fire Academy on August 20th. The class will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays until February 2008.
Much of the month consisted of preparing for training in the acquired structure that was offered to the Department. The residence, located at 161 Fish and Game Road, was built in 1932 and was to be demolished by the new homeowners. They graciously allowed us to train in the building for the week following their closing on the property.
We were able to train on three separate occasions, performing Search and Rescue, Laddering, Ventilation, and Hose Handling techniques before the final burn on August 26th. After conducting nine live fire evolutions in the building, the structure was destroyed using a controlled burn under the supervision of the Fire and Rescue. The training we were able to gain from just these three occasions was an invaluable experience for our members, some of whom had never before been in a live fire situation.
All of the live fire activities were conducted under the guidance of NFPA 1403. The building passed an inspection for asbestos contamination and all necessary permits were obtained prior to the burn. I have written a comprehensive After Action Report for the Board’s information.
The Fire and Rescue Call Summary, the Quarterly Activity Report, and Apparatus Report for the month of August are attached.
Respectfully Submitted,
Chief Andy Anderson
