Subject: Monthly Report
This month’s report will cover the period from 1 August to 31 August 2008. The Deering Fire and Rescue responded to 19 calls during the month, including another building struck by lightning on the 12th.
Our antenna on Wolf Hill was also struck by lightning on the 2nd, completely destroying it. Capital Area Mutual Aid made arrangements for dispatching from another antenna on the Cell Tower so interruptions to our service were minimal. Repairs are in process and a new antenna should be in place by next month’s report.
Ambulance One had problems with the brakes again and was brought to Hillsboro Ford to diagnose the issue. 84A1 will be going to the Highway Department for repairs during the first week of September. At this time the apparatus is in service.
Acting Lieutenant Steve Brooks has been granted a Personal Leave of Absence for at least four months. He has been recalled to Active Duty as a member of the Air Force Reserve and will be stationed in Iraq.
Deputy Chief Chris Ladue has been promoted to Assistant Chief effective August 1st. The Deputy’s position will remain open until further notice.
With the painting project at the Murdough Station completed, the Rescue Boat was moved from the Donovan Station to the Murdough Station. This better locates 84 Boat One for response to the Lake or to points in West Deering, including the Contoocook River. The antique Engine 84 will soon be housed once again at the Donovan Station so we can begin restoration to that vehicle.
The Flagpoles at the Donovan and McAlister Station have been replaced with plans to have new flags flying on them by September 11th.
Basic Water Rescue training was the topic for the month of August. Leo Roy from the Manchester Fire Department conducted the training with a classroom session on the 7th and all day practical on the 10th at the Lake.
On the 23rd we were invited to join the Francestown Fire Department where they used the Class “A” Burn Trailer from the New Hampshire Fire Academy. Two of our newest members participated in the training.
We held our first Deering Fire and Rescue Family BBQ on the 24th at Oxbow Campground. The members, their families and friends spent the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the recreational areas. We’d like to thank everyone at Oxbow Campground who made every effort to make us feel welcome. We had a great time and hope this becomes an annual Summer event!
The Fire and Rescue Call Summary and Apparatus Report for the month of August are attached.
