Deering Public Library Trustees Meeting Wednesday, November 12, 2008
The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Sue Bearor, at 4:07 p.m. Trustees in attendance were Susan Foster, Sue Bearor, and Kathy Lassey.
Correspondence was read and sorted by the Trustees.
Treasurer’s Report: As of 10/15/08 the library account held $1864.39. New books have been ordered
by Judy Wood that amount to $343.71. We have more money in the line item to purchase more books.
The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes of the September meeting were amended before being accepted. The
amended minutes will be posted on the web and in the library.
Old Business:
Fall Social: Music provided by Gil Bouley on the keyboard was enjoyed by 12 attendees.
Refreshments were served. Donations of $12.00 were received.
Book Order: Since there is more money in the line item, the Trustees decided to as Judy to order about
$300. worth of audio books, since increasing that category was a goal earlier in the year.
Susan Foster will enter our current audio book collection on librarything.com to keep a record of
our holdings and so duplicates will not be ordered.
Schoolhouse: The building needs repair. It was decided that we should ask an architectural planner for
concept site photos or drawings to get an idea of what is possible if the building is to be
moved. In that case, the building will need repairs and upgrades to meet current codes, including
water, septic, insulation, mold removal, more space, site preparation, and parking area.
Sue Bearor will ask Karl for an estimate of the repairs. It was decided that no decision should be
made until more information is available.
Procedures: Sue Bearor asked Judy for a written copy of the procedures currently used. Judy will get
them to the board as soon as possible.
The Big Read: Jean Johnson has helped us to sign up for the event. It is a nation-wide community
reading event taking place in 2009. Several meetings have been held, and we will send a Trustee to
the next meeting for more information.
New Business:
Town-wide Christmas Program: The library has been asked to particpate again this year. Last year we
sponsored a “Snowflake” table which was well attended. We sponsor that again this year and try to
get some of the Friends of the Library to help. We will also provide free books for all children in
attendance. A program of some kind might be possible. There are enough funds to sponsor one.
Friends of the Library; The next meeting of the Friends group will be on Tuesday, November 18 at
6:30 at the Town Hall.
Book Discussion; We will try for a book discussion in January. Kathy will look into facilitating one.
Adult Program: Kathy suggested a possible history program for March which is Women’s History
Month. She will contact the Humanities Council for some possible presenters.
Meeting was adjourned at 5:35 p.m.
