PD January Monthly Report
The Town of Deering, NH
Deering Police Department                                                             Deering, NH 03244

MONTHLY REPORT        January 2006

NEWS:.
1.      Exploring:  we have received applications for Cadet Academy in June, and it sounds like the majority of the Explorer Post will be going.  Cost is $125.00 per Cadet for the 6 day academy.  The Explorers are also learning about areas in preparation for annual competition.  Two explorers were called on to assist in Washington with a large funeral.
2.      Cruiser Accident:  we have found a power steering “rack” leak that Grappone did not find that was directly related to the accident.  I have spoken to the insurance company and they will be covering this new repair.

TRAINING:
1.      Department completed training in NIMS with Fire/Rescue.  Ofc. Hodgen had calls, so he will take the on-line version in the next week or two.
2.      Ofc. Cavanaugh took PSTC Class on prosecution issues.
3.      In house Dept. Training included Defensive Tactics refresher and Classroom portion of required Annual Use-Of-Force.  Bennington PD came to this as well.
4.      Chief Pushee completed required Incident Command System 2 day training at PSTC.  At this time we are beginning to schedule the rest of the department for this.
5.      Planning for OC (pepper) spray and baton annual recertification classes in February.

GRANTS:
1.      Bulletproof Partnership Grants were supposed to be open in January, but apparently this has been delayed until (hopefully) next week.  We have ordered new vests for Ofc. Minichiello and Ofc. Murphy and have assurances that anything spent prior to this will be “retroactive” as long as the grant itself is approved.
2.      Operation Street Sweeper:  I applied and received a reply that the “equipment purchase” portions of this grant program have been underfunded for this federal fiscal year, so they are not accepting any more applications.  If there are moneys left at the end of the FY2006 (September), this application will be one of the first three “revisited.”
3.      CEDAP:  I tried a new “on-line” equipment grant program for a second “handheld” thermal imager.  Have not heard any status on this, and don’t expect to for several months.
