Deering Police Locate Marijuana Grow

During the afternoon of Wednesday October 1, 2008, Officers from the Deering Police Department seized marijuana plants that were nearing maturity.  The woodlands growing operation consisted of 20 marijuana plants ranging in size from four to seven feet tall.  It is estimated that each marijuana plant has a street value of about $1000.00.

This marijuana growing operation was located on public conservation lands abutting a summer camp near the Deering Reservoir in the central section of the Town.  Officer Christopher Parsons was the primary investigating officer and has been checking and providing surveillance in the area randomly since the Deering Police were made aware of this operation by a citizen earlier in the growing season.

While the Deering Police had hoped to discover the cultivator of this marijuana grow in the process of harvesting his crop, after the surveillance officer met a hunter in the woods near the crop’s location, it was determined that seizing and removing the marijuana crop was in the best interest of public safety.  No arrests have been made in this case.

Digital photographs of a portion of the marijuana seizure, as well as portions of the growing operation in the field are available via e-mail.
