DEERING POLICE CADETS SEEKING NEW MEMBERS
The Deering Police Cadets, more formally known as the Hillcat Law Enforcement Explorer Post #612, are actively seeking new membership. Recently many of our longstanding members have graduated from school and their plans include leaving for the military and college.
The Deering Police Cadets welcome all interested young men and young women between the ages of 14 and 20 years old. As Cadets, you will learn about many aspects of public safety and law enforcement service. Additionally, you will help the local communities by providing assistance to the local Police agencies in various capacities and duties. You will also learn life lessons in self-respect, dignity, dedication, public service, and teamwork principles. Some of the tasks you will perform may also be counted towards your Community Service requirements at school, and in some cases you may even receive class credits or even some promotional advances during military service after you finish school.
In addition to the bi-weekly meetings at the Deering Town Hall, our Cadets will occasionally travel to learn about other law enforcement agencies and task forces and they will have the opportunity to attend state and regional training and fun events, as well as compete in the annual State Challenge Weekend competitions. We also recommend and support all of our Cadet members in attending the “Cadet Academy” sessions at Hesser College each year. This program is a week-long, para-military style “boot camp” type academy similar in nature to a Police Academy program.
The Deering Police Cadets have been sponsored by the Deering Police Department since 2005. The Post is a Learning For Life Program chartered through the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America. While we encourage our members who are interested in pursuing the law enforcement field as a career, a desire to take this career path is in no way a necessity, and we are just as happy supporting our members in using the skills and lessons they learn with the Police Cadets when they decide to pursue other career aspirations.
If you are interested in learning more about Police Cadets and the opportunities with the Deering Police “Hillcat Law Enforcement Exploring Post #612” Program, please contact Chief James Pushee at the Deering Police headquarters in the Deering Town Hall. The inside Office Phone at the Deering Police Department is (603) 464-3127.
