Deering Police Investigating Overnight Thefts in Longwoods Park

The Deering Police have received complaints and are investigating reports of Thefts that occurred in the Longwoods Mobile Home Park in Deering overnight on Tuesday March 17th and into the morning of Wednesday March 18, 2009.  Several vehicles within this mobile home park were entered during these overnight hours, and various electronic devices were taken including Radar Detectors, GPS Units, Video Systems, Cell Phones, and Satellite Radio Receivers.

Additionally, while canvassing the area neighborhood, Chief James Pushee learned of a residential burglary that occurred within the past month but which the victim had neglected to call and report when it was first discovered.  While the victim of the burglary cannot find anything of value missing at this time, it is suspected that the perpetrators were perhaps searching for stashes of money or prescription medications.

Chief James Pushee believes that the perpetrator(s) in the more recent thefts from the motor vehicles was probably walking along the roadway and saw the electronic technology on the dashboards of the unlocked vehicles.  This rash of thefts is seen as a crime of opportunity, so Chief Pushee urges all residents to take steps to help prevent further such crimes.  Steps to help ward off predators like this include the use of motion sensing security lights, the locking of all vehicles and residences, and the removal of electronic devices from view when not actually in use.

As the Deering Police are a small department, usually with only one officer on-duty at a time covering about 36 square miles, and either a Deering Officer or State Police covering the non-duty hours, Chief Pushee further asks that all residents assist in protecting their property and the property of their neighbors by reporting all problems and concerns.  All residents are asked to be vigilant and to immediately report any and all suspicious looking activity as soon as possible by calling the Deering Police Dispatch at 464-3600, so that an officer can be dispatched to respond and investigate.

If anyone has information that will they believe may be of interest to Chief Pushee and the Deering Police Department in these investigations, or information about any other Deering crime, past or present, Chief Pushee urges you to call and speak to an officer.
