The Deering Police Department is proud to announce that the Hillcat Law Enforcement Explorer Post 612 was awarded the “Rookie Post of the Year” award for 2006 by the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America during a dinner and awards ceremony held at the NH Police Standards and Training Academy in Concord on November 20, 2006.  Attending the ceremony to receive this honor was the Post 612 Advisor, Deering Police Officer Nicholas Hodgen, as well as several Post 612 members.  The award plaque is currently being displayed at the Hillsboro Police Department, but will soon be moved to the Deering Town Hall.  Because Post 612 membership covers youths from several towns, arrangements are being discussed regarding the posting of this plaque at the Hillsboro-Deering Cooperative High School.

Since forming Hillcat Post 612 earlier this year, members of this Deering Police Exploring Post have attended the Basic and Advanced Session of the NH Police Cadet Training Academy and placed well in several areas of competition during the Annual Cadet Challenge Weekend.  Additionally, Advisors and Committee Members of Post #612 have assisted the state exploring organizations with the Cadet Academy, the Challenge Weekend, and the University of Exploring.  On top of all this, various members of Post 612 have collectively served several hundred hours of Community Relations and Community Service “details” to include public service displays, logistical and manpower assistance to other community events, as well as helping at other public and private special events.  Post 612 currently has several members who are also serving as Interns with the Deering, Hillsboro, and Washington Police Departments.

Hillcat Post 612 is a Law Enforcement Exploring Post that is sponsored by the Deering Police Department and chartered through the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  Post 612 currently has about ten active members, and are always open to interested new applicants.  Exploring is part of the “Learning for Life” curriculum of the Boy Scouts of America, and membership is open to both boys and girls between the age of 14.5 (in the 8th grade) and 20.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Hillcat Police Explorer Post 612 can call Officer Hodgen at the Deering Police Department at 464-3127.  If you would like more information about Police Exploring (or other types of Explorer Posts) in New Hampshire can call Heidi Foisy at the Daniel Webster Council Offices in Manchester, NH.
